Χριστουγεννιάτικη Κάρτα

H Inter Engineering σε συνεργασία με την F-Secure προειδοποιούν τους χρήστες για την μετάδοση ενός καινούργιου ιού τύπου worm ο οποίος εμφανίζεται ως Χριστουγεννάτικη Κάρτα σε ηλεκτρονική μορφή.
Οι συγγραφείς των ιών μπαίνουν και αυτοί στο κλίμα των Χριστουγέννων με έναν ιό γνωστό ως Zafi.D. Ο ιός αυτός μεταδίδεται μέσω μυνημάτων email τα οποία είναι γραμμένα σε διάφορες γλώσσες ανάλογα με την διεύθυνση του παραλήπτη. Η Χριστουγεννιάτικη ευχή μπορεί να είναι γραμμένη στα Αγγλικά, Ιταλικά, Ισπανικά, Ρωσικά, Σουηδικά, και διάφορες άλλες γλώσσες.
Το μύνημα είναι μια απλή Χριστουγεννιάτικη ευχή. Παρακάτω ακολουθεί ένα δείγμα του Αγγλικού μυνήματος:

Το μολυσμένο επισυναπτόμενο αρχείο είναι .pif, .cmd, .bat, ή .com. Όταν εκτελεστεί το μολυσμένο αρχείο απεικονίζει το μύνημα "Error in packet file!" Έπειτα ο ιός προσπαθεί να μολύνει και άλλους χρήστες, ενώ εγκαθιστά και ένα πρόγραμμα τύπου Backdoor το οποίο επιτρέπει στον συγγραφέα να πάρει τον έλεγχο του υπολογιστή.
Ο ιός στέλνει μυνήματα στις αντίστοιχες γλώσσες για τους παρακάτω κωδικούς χωρών:

"Δεν είναι η πρώτη φορά που βλέπουμε χριστουγεννιάτικους ιούς να προσπαθούν να μεταδωθούν βασισμένοι στο πνεύμα των ημερών" σχολιάζει ο Josmaarten Swinkels της Inter Engineering. "Μία εκτυπωμένη κάρτα είναι πολύ πιο όμορφη και μπορεί να στολίσει το σπίτι. Συνιστούμε τον κόσμο να χρησιμοποιεί τις παραδοσιακές κάρτες και όχι τις ηλεκτρονικές".

Virus Sends Christmas Card

Inter Engineering and F-Secure warn the users around the world about a new email worm that passes itself on as fake Christmas Card.
Virus writers are honouring this Christmas with a new virus known as Zafi.D. The email worm spreads in emails that are written in several different languages based on the recipient. The Christmas greeting could be written in English, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Swedish and several other languages.
The message is a simple Christmas wish. The following text is an example of English message:

Subject: Merry Christmas!
Happy Hollydays!
The infected attachment has an extension of .pif, .cmd, .bat, or .com file. When run, the virus displays a decoy error message saying "Error in packed file!". After this the virus spreads further and installs a backdoor that will allow the virus writer to take over the infected computer. The worm sends messages in the respective languages to the following country codes:

"It's not the first time we see Christmas viruses trying to infect using the mood of the people these days" says Mr. Swinkels of Inter Engineering. "A printed card is better than an electronic one and can be used on a shelf in our houses. We suggest that people uses the traditional Christmas cards and not the electronic ones".
