Spiros Kagadis (Greek: Σπύρος Καγκάδης) is the sole screenplay writer of the Odyssey which is scheduled to be filmed on the Greek islands of Cephalonia & Ithaca. He first contacted, on his own initiative, Warner Bros. in May 2004 in order to bring back the Hollywood people to his home island of Cephalonia after the successful filming there of the movie Captain Corelli's Mandolin in the summer of the year 2000 (where he was a production runner and appears performing along side the actor Christian Bale) yet their first responses to his proposed thematic sequel to Warner Bros.'s blockbuster movie ΅TroyΆ were negative.
In more recent developments Warner Brothers gave Kagadis the green light for a first draft of a screenplay. Tom Hanks has been asked to either produce or direct the film and he flew to Cephalonia to read a draft of the screenplay. According to Kagadis, he has contacted Charlize Theron who sounded positive in being cast in the role of Penelope and he talked to Colin Farrell's manager for part of Odysseus while Greek model/singer & actress Julia Alexandratou is rumored to play the role of Nausicaa and Angelina Jolie is being considered in the role of Helen. Although all this is still in early stages since Warner Brothers has not yet committed to the project.
In the latest news the filmΆs budget is expected to be similar to that of Warner Bros' ΅TroyΆ in the area of $180.000.000. Plus, the film has been officially acquired by Unizarre International Producers/Writers David Bowles & Tim Francis who teamed up with the Writer Spiros Kagadis and re-titled it to Ulysses.[1] [2]
